Too Many Tax Proposals--NO on Measure E
Nov. 8, 2016 Election
The Nov. 8 2016 election is turning into a "who can tax the people more Love Fest". There are at least 24 measures on the ballot in Monterey County, most dealing with giving the Man more money to spend. Several are noteworthy. One is Measure E. This is a tax proposal by the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District (MPRPD) who are calling for a parcel tax increase with no sunset clause and with a CPI provision that allows the tax to automatically increase each year if there is inflation.
The MPRPD is the same agency that gave general manager Joseph Donofrio $350,000 a year salary for supervising only 16 employees. Now retired, Donofrio gets $177,000 a year with full medical and dental benefits. At the time, his salary was higher than the governor of California. See the arguments AGAINST MEASURE E at the Monterey Peninsula Taxpayers Association website.
