There Are Two extremely Bad Measures on the Nov. 6, 2018 Ballot

Measure J will use the state power of eminent domain to takeover a private water company—California American Water (Cal Am). The relatively new organization Committee Against Fascist Economics (CAFÉ will be putting out advertisements demonstrating how Fascist Italy had nationalized most of its economy. In 1934 Mussolini boasted about this nationalization in a speech declaring that “Three-fourths of the Italian economy, industrial and agricultural, is in the hands of the state.”

In the case of National Socialist Germany, by 1943 over 500 companies were owned by the Third Reich. Hitler was in such a rush to establish new state-owned companies that Albert Speer, Hitler’s Minister of Armaments and War Production, remarked in his memoirs that “a kind of state socialism seemed to be gaining more and more ground, furthered by many of the [Nazi] party functionaries.”

The point to remember is that it is very fascist-socialist to confiscate private property and businesses. Measure J needs to be defeated in the Monterey Peninsula area. Historical Fascism needs to be resisted.

Proposition 10 in California will give tremendous power to unelected rent control boards in every city and county to regulate and set prices for rental units. Again, rent control is fascist control. Historically, one of Hitler’s first acts in 1933 was to freeze wages, prices, and rents. According to economist Graham Hallett, the results of rent control were unfavorable to the public. State-controlled rent only exacerbated the problems for German renters, since “very few houses were built” during the 12-year Nazi era.

Government control of rent will make it impossible to find rental units, because few builders will decide to construct apartments, multi-residential units, or single family rental homes. Housing shortages will become even more critical as California’s population continues to grow.

The state of California, which has imposed high costs and regulations, along with CEQA litigation and settlements on home builders, is mostly responsible for high rental prices and little new supply. The state caused this problem, but now, like vultures, statists and fascists want to make the situation even worse. No on Proposition 10. Resist Fascism.
